We are pleased to announce the dbAccess Australia Corporate Days to be held in London on Monday, 12 - Tuesday, 13 March 2018.
The Australian equity market has risen modestly in 2017, lagging global peers. Valuations were sustained at above-average levels, while earnings took over as the key driver of market gains. Earnings revisions have been resilient of late, with FY18 forecasts holding up through August reporting and AGM season. Resources have had a solid year, with share prices rallying as the earnings upgrade cycle continued. China? economy has been fairly resilient, while oil prices have moved higher on improving fundamentals. Strong cash flows are also supporting capital management initiatives. Banks have had a tough year due to the imposition of the bank levy and the announcement of a commission of inquiry. The revenue environment is also softening. Recent softness in the Australian economy makes us wary of domestic exposure, particularly given subdued wages growth. But we see a tactical opportunity with retail stocks given that they are very unloved and households are asset-rich. The synchronised global upturn leaves us favouring offshore earners.
